How Do Attorneys And Self Represented Litigants Arrange To Appear Telephonically?
To arrange to appear telephonically, simply visit this website, www.tele-court.com, Open an Account, Add A Case to your profile, and then Schedule a Telephonic Appearance in that case. You will receive an online confirmation as well as an email confirmation. The confirmation contains the conference dial in telephone number and a Personal Identification Number ("PIN") as well as other information about appearing telephonically. Should you find it necessary to later switch the identity of the appearing attorney to another in your firm, or to cancel your appearance, Tele-Court's online Calendar system makes it easy.
On the day of the hearing, if you happen to be in front of a computer, you might want to open the real-time Tele-Court Call Viewer to monitor the conference call. In any event, you should dial in several minutes ahead of the hearing, just as you would likely arrive in the courtroom several minutes ahead of time. After you dial in and enter your unique PIN, a message will play identifying the court you are to be connected to and informing you whether the court has dialed in. If the court has not yet dialed in, you will wait on music hold. Once the court has dialed in, an announcement will play and you will be connected to the courtroom via a courtroom speakerphone. You must mute your line, either by using the mute button on your telephone device, or by pressing 1#, or by using Tele-Court's online Call Viewer, so that you do no disturb other cases that may be heard before your appearance. When your case is called, you unmute your line and make your appearance.
You can summon a Tele-Court operator for a private consultation at any time by pressing 0#. When requested by participants or the court, the Tele-Court operator can place two or more participants in a subconference where they can confer privately until they are ready to return to the main conference. Persons present in court who need to participate in the subconference can step out outside and dial in as well.
Some courts periodically hear matters in chambers. When matters are heard in chambers, the dial in process is the same, except that you will hear messaging indicating that you will remain on hold until your case is called, at which time you and any others appearing telephonically in that particular case are joined to the hearing in chambers.
